Escape from the Quagmire of Mediocrity and Poverty

By Reginald Delaney

Introduction

The things that we achieve in life are a manisfestation of our thoughts and actions. If we are not thinking correctly, our lives will not resemble the dream lives that we have painted for ourselves. This means that if we are prone to thinking in limited terms, we will only be able to achieve limited results. Once we understand how truly beneficial or how truly detrimental our thinking can be with regards to our ability to achieve the lives we desire, we can begin to take the necessary steps to intentionally construct the desired reality. In this article we will explore the need to reprogram our thinking, so that we can free ourselves from the quagmire of mediocrity and poverty.

What is the QMP?

The quagmire of mediocrity and poverty is a state of being that lends itself to a sense of hopelessness and despair. Let’s explore this in more detail by first defining the key words in this philosophy. We will begin with the word “quagmire”. According to the dictionary, a quagmire is “a difficult, precarious, or entrapping position” . Even after exploring the first word in the QMP philosophy, we can already feel the negative energy that this philosophy invokes. Let’s take a look at the next word. In the dictionary, “mediocrity” is defined as “moderate ability or value”. As we can see, there is not too much positivity associated with this word either. And finally, we have the word “poverty”. “Poverty” is defined as “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions”. There we have it, 3 negative keywords that describes an overall negative philosophy. Not only do we broach the subject of lacking when we speak of poverty, we also speak of the social acceptance of the state. When we take the 3 keywords and combine them in a single overarching philosophy, we end up with a condition that is marred by hopelessness and despair. Unfortunately, and fortunately both, the main ingredients that fuel the QMP engine is our own thoughts! This is unfortunate because it is our own thoughts and actions that prevent us from reaching our full potential. However, this is fortunate because once we come to the realization that we have the ability to build the lives we desire, we can take action to bring those lives into being. If we resign ourselves to living in the quagmire of mediocrity and poverty, we have in essence accepted the victim mentality and we will forever think that things that are beyond our control have the biggest impact on what we do or do not do with our lives. If we change our thinking, we can change our actions, and thereby, change our lives.

The Power of the Mind

A good friend of mine, Mr. Kerry Lovett, shared some information with me that was quite interesting. It was information regarding scientific research that showed that the human mind uses past experiences to construct and shape the future. Scientists have studied brain activity to indeed show that if we have met certain circumstances with success in the past, we have a higher likelihood of handling the situation successfully in the future. Another interesting side to this is that once the mind has been programmed with the information that it has handled the situation successfully in the past, it doesn’t matter whether the situation actually occurred or if it was imagined. What this means is that if we simply do a good job of convincing ourselves that we have handled the situation successfully and we experience doing so in our mind’s eye, it will become a part of our history of successes and when the time comes we will increase our likelihood of handling the situation successfully! This falls in line with the long-standing belief that by using powerful visualization techniques coupled with adequate planning and appropriate actions, we almost guarantee our success!

The Escape from the QMP

We can see that if we truly wish to escape the grip of the quagmire of mediocrity and poverty, we must liberate our minds from the mental bondage that years of negative programming has fostered. We must teach ourselves to think in terms of our infinite ability to create and achieve. By correcting our thinking we can correct our actions. By correcting our actions, we will alter our reality. By positively altering our reality, we can positively impact the realities of those that encounter. We inevitably attract wealth and abundance into our lives by doing those things which result in the manifestation of wealth and abundance. The result of our transformation efforts will be the escape from the QMP!

Conclusion

In life, there are two "Vics". We have a choice as to which Vic we choose to be. We can choose to either be "Tim" or "Torious". If we choose to be VicTim, then we will take a passive approach at life and get tossed around like a rowboat on a merciless sea. However, if we choose to be VicTorious, we will forge ahead like a mighty battleship equipped to wage war against the many monstrous waves that the sea of life will put in our path! The result…victory, and the escape from the QMP!

Thanks, Mel!

Like you, I have always been intrigued by the power of the mind. When we look at all the marvels around us and realize that they all began with a thought, it is truly amazing! It is even more wonderful when we come to the realization that we are constantly thinking and constantly creating. I anxiously await the creation of your next hub!

Take care, InnerChi Balance.

An inspiring and motivating hub. Someone once said "Nothing is good or bad - it is thinking that makes it so". I would like to thank you for this powerful reminder of how each one of us can be vic - torious. I choose success!

Vocalcoach,

Thank you for your kind words. I agree with you. The way we think about our situations can put the proper spin on things. I believe that everything happens for a reason. Even those things that are a bit trying, I view as an opportunity to learn something new, or as an opportunity to grow my character.

Your hubs are always inspirational and informative. Thank you for continuing to share your insight and your feedback.

I look forward to your next hub.

Reggie.

Nan,

Thank you so much for your kind words. In an attempt to improve our world, we must share with others. It is true that some may not agree with the things that we say or do, but I think that as long as the intent of our words and actions are honorable and good, we can rebound from instances where we may have said or done things that weren't 100% "right".

Reggie.
